After many years of enjoying a wonderful relationship with clay working as a functional potter, I was forced kicking and screaming into a world of electric kilns and lowfire ceramics. All the time I exercised the “function defines form” philosophy, along with the deep involvement in process oriented ware, have created a rich resource from which I can draw both inspiration and ideas. This has been my past and continues to greatly affect my work today. Love and respect for the functional vessel are always with me, but like Dorothy I have stepped over the rainbow and have engaged my work in a dance with my life experiences and fantasies until they begin to take on an existence of their own.
