Abby Wood grew up in a creative household and was inspired at an early age by her father and grandparents. Abby studied painting and photography at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was awarded a BFA in 1994. She also studied photography at The Slade School of Art in London, and printmaking and graphic design at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
Her cemetery photos are the inspiration for Abby’s prints. The photos are in-camera double exposures, which creates an interesting layered effect. Abby carves a rubber stamp from a photo, and then layers the images on paper in red, black, and silver ink. Abby has taken photos of cemeteries in Texas, New Hampshire, Illinois, and England.
Abby began making bead jewelry for herself in 1990, and became passionate about collecting beads. Her friends and family began clamoring for her to make them jewelry, and a business was born. You may notice an abundance of purple jewelry, as this is her favorite color! Abby also creates custom pieces on request.
Abby’s latest passion is collage, especially handmade cards and collage jewelry. She collects found objects, paper, stickers, Christmas decorations, and rubber stamps, which she uses to create unique cards and other art objects. Abby’s collage brooches can be worn either as a pin or hung on a necklace. Her latest card creations feature an ornament which the recipient of the card can use on their Christmas tree.
